International Mahavir Jain Mission is a world-wide non-governmental institution engaged in the propagation of the Jain philosophy of Non-violence (AHIMSA), Non-possessiveness (APARIGARAH), Universal Brotherhood and Reverence for all living beings.

The organization was established in 1952 under the inspiring guidance of its Founder - President His Holiness Acharya Sushil Kumarji Maharaj – a world renowned Jain monk. Breaking the age-old restrictive tradition of monks not travelling by any vehicle, Acharya Sushil Kumarji undertook travel by air, crossed oceans to bring to all mankind the message of compassion, co-operative coexistence of all beings and peace to the troubled world. He was a healer, a seer and a leader. Acharya Sushil Kumarji Maharaj, who was revered to as Guruji very fondly by his devotees, believed that there is no higher life than a life of service towards mankind. His teachings have been totally secular in perspective and content. Guruji made the world realise the rich and vibrant essence of the age-old Indian culture and philosophy, which believes in “Vasudhav Kutumbkam”(The world is one family).

International Mahavir Jain Mission has been preaching the principle of “live & let live”. Implementing this ideology has been very much useful in rendering services in specific projects both in India and around the world. The grave concerns of the International Mahavir Jain Mission are:(a) environmental protection,(b) animal rights and violations,(c) yoga and mediation, (d) prevention of cruelty to all living beings,(e) vegetarianism, (f) non-violence, (g) world peace, (h) conflict resolution in social and political fields,(i) promotion of amity and elimination of inter-communal mistrust, hatred and suspicion.

IMJM has emerged as a truly international organization with global orientation. In recognition of its achievements and universal stature, the United Nations has recognized it as one of its affiliated NGO (Non-Governmental Organization) making the International Mahavir Jain Mission humbly honored to be represented at the United Nations. It is from here that the International Mahavir Jain Mission is able to promote the concept of United harmony engaged in the pursuit of world peace through building bridges of understanding, promoting universal non-violent behaviors and linking ecology to religion in order to bring home the pressing need to arrest further environmental degradation and take to the path of restoring nature to its natural balance and charting out a non-violent path in the relationship between Man with Nature.
